Many thanks to members for your continued support in recent times, particularly since March 2020 when the pandemic took hold. The CFPS has still been busy during this time, 40145 is now part way through a 12 month hire agreement to LSL at Crewe. 40106 is on long term hire to the SVR where, she is now able to delight those of you able to travel to have a run out on the railway behind her. 40135 is still unfortunately out of service with a defective crankshaft. When you consider the current situation of the UK rail network as a whole, the CFPS is in a positive position where 66% of its fleet is earning revenue on a daily basis, but not quite enough.
We are also within touching distance, with the help of Shaun Wright’s D213 and LSL, of potentially seeing a pair of ex works Class 40’s being able to operate on the UK railway network. Another huge positive, who would of thought back in the mid 1980’s when this last happened, that we might get to see it again nearly 40 years later?
Our Chairman, John Stephens has updated the CFPS membership over the past couple of days regarding the unsatisfactory condition of 40145’s bodywork, identified prior to the repainting of her back into BR Green livery, with small warning panels.
Below are some images that very clearly illustrate the extent of the bodywork repairs urgently needed. Some work has already been carried out, as can be seen. This post will also be shared on our Facebook group and whatever the view of some of our members, the evidence speaks for itself – there are holes and the old girl is taking on water. 40145 was last repainted back in 2008.
Today, we have started an appeal to raise £10k to cover the costs of the bodywork repairs urgently required to 40145. As John explained the move from repair shop to paint shop has been delayed by several weeks due to the condition of the bodywork. This unfortunately thwarted the plans to send 40145 ex works, to the forthcoming Diesel Gala at The East Lancashire Railway In July.
A Facebook fundraiser has been started and utilising our PayPal Giving Fund account allows fee free donations to the CFPS, PayPal now even takes care of the Gift Aid and pays any funds raised directly into the CFPS bank account You don’t even have to have a PayPal account to donate, just follow the link under the Help The CFPS Raise Funds heading on the website to use a debit or credit card.
