If you enjoyed the recent 40s at 60 event, have you ever considered joining the “Oily Rags” team?
The “Oily Rags” provide engineering support to our 3 Class 40 locomotives at the ELR, without the support they recieve from this very dedicated group of volunteers, our locos wouldn’t be able to run.
You don’t need any previous experience to get involved.
To become an Oily Rag you need to meet the following criteria:
1. You have to be a member of the ELR . This is because the locos are on ELR premises and you have to be a working ELR member for insurance purposes to work anywhere on ELR. It is not necessary to be a member of the CFPS, but hey who doesn’t want to be a member of the CFPS?
2. You would have to complete an ELR Safety course* which is very straightforward.
3. Having completed the course, you will have to pass an ELR Medical with the Doctor.
* An Oily Rag potential member can start attending working days as you can be issued with a Temporary Working Members Pass, if there isn’t an ELR Safety course available straightaway.
Once fully accredited, you will work within the team learning your skills along the way.
So hopefully we haven’t put you off yet?
