This is just a quick update on 40106 which is still at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR).
Due to the haulier (Locomotive Services Limited) advising us that they are unable to move 40106 from the SVR back to the East Lancashire Railway before the end of May, agreement has been reached with the SVR to hire 40106 until the end of May 2022. This followed a request from the SVR last week. CFPS ‘Oily Rags’ went to the SVR last Saturday at very short notice and carried out an ‘A Exam’ on the loco. Some additional electrical checks, which were recommended by David Peacock were also completed following on from the failure of the AVR at the end of last year. I’m pleased to report that no evidence of any further damage was found. Thanks are due to Mark Hornby, Derek Gibson, and Neil Harris for attending on the Saturday and to Jonathan Wilcox for carrying out some preparatory work on the Friday. The current plan for 40106 is to cover Thunderbird duties at Kidderminster from the 2nd April and take part in the Spring Diesel Gala in May. Members should check the SVR website for details of any workings planned as these are not advised to the CFPS in advance.
Andy Sparks has produced another excellent edition of The Whistler, Issue 154 is currently with the printers and should be ready by the end of this week. We are waiting for a quote from a separate company in Stockport to mail the magazine directly and will advise when this has been decided. When the current cost of fuel, delivery charges and the time taken to prepare the magazine for mailing is considered, this may well prove to be the most cost and labour efficient option for us going forward.
